A Ph.D.student from Research Center of Avian Disease has given a report on 5th WVPA Asia Meeting

On October 22-23, 2022, a Ph.D. student from the Research Center of Avian Disease named Zhang Senzhao presented an oral report at the 5th WVPA Asia Meeting. The World Veterinary Poultry Association hosts the WVPA Asia Meeting twice a year, which is a major gathering for all researchers studying avian diseases. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Zhang Senzhao has participated the meeting online and has given a scientific report as“Selective autophagy receptor SQSTM1/ p62 inhibits Duck Tembusu virus replication by targeting viral non-structural protein 4A” which summarizes the most recent research on the interactions between DTMUV and host components by Prof. Chen Shun's team: The autophagy receptor p62 mediates selective autophagic degradation of TMUV NS4A in a ubiquitin-dependent manner. Sichuan Agricultural University has been in the leading position in the field of waterfowl disease research. Its role in the prevention and control of avian diseases has been put in great value by peers. As the only university from China, Sichuan Agricultural University was invited to participate, and the report amply illustrated the caliber of Chinese research in the area of avian diseases.

The 5th WVPA Asia Meeting discussed several scientific topics, including poultry respiratory viruses, bacteria, and mycoplasma, as well as new vaccine developments, disease control, healthy breeding management, etc. World-famous experts in avian pathology, including Prof. Nicolas Eterradossi from the International Reference Laboratory for Infectious Bursal Disease in France, were among the attendees. They spoke about the challenges associated with the surveillance and management of the highly pathogenic H5 avian influenza virus, low pathogenic H9N2 avian influenza virus, and the prevention of the Newcastle disease virus in chickens.
