Institute of Veterinary Medicine and Immunology(Inherited from Institute of Preventive Veterinary Medicine,2011), College of Veterinary Medicine, Sichuan Agriculture University was founded in 2023, mainly engaged in applied basic research related to waterfowl pathogenesis, prevention and control of waterfowl infectious diseases. In recent years, it has successively won 1 second prize of the National Technology Invention Award, 2 first prizes of the Ministry of Education Technology Invention Award, and 2 Excellent Innovation Team Awards of the Shennong Chinese Agricultural Science and Technology Award of the Ministry of Agriculture; 6 first prizes, 4 second prizes and 8 third prizes of Sichuan Science and Technology Progress Award; 1 national first-class new veterinary drug certificate and 2 second-class new veterinary drug certificates have been approved. It has formed a distinctive research team with clear advantages in the fields of diagnosis, prevention and control of waterfowl infectious diseases, pathogenic mechanisms, host immune defence mechanisms and other applied basic research at home and abroad. The team was awarded as the innovation team of the Ministry of Education for "Southwest Animal Epidemic Disease Occurrence and Immunity Control Mechanisms" (2008), the innovation team of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs for "Outstanding Talents and Innovation Teams in Agricultural Research" (2015), the first team of Huang Danian teachers of the Ministry of Education ( (2018), the chief scientist of the National Agricultural Industry Technology System Sichuan Innovation Team (2018), etc. The team has established long-term partnerships with internationally reputable research institutions such as the University of Utah (USA), the University of Tübingen (Germany) and the Pasteur Institute (France). The team is led by Prof. Cheng Anchun, with five professors, 3 associate professors and 7 lecturers. 1 researchers has been selected as a "Tianfu Outstanding Scientist", 1 researchers as a "Young Yangtze River Scholar of the Ministry of Education", 1 researchers as a "Distinguished Talent in Agricultural Research" of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, 1 researchers as a "New Youth of Sichuan", 1 researchers as a "Young Teacher of Huo Yingdong Foundation"; 3 researchers are "Academic and Technical Leaders of Sichuan Province", 1 researchers is "Academic and Technical Leaders Reserve Candidates of Sichuan Province", and 11 researchers with overseas study experience. In the past five years, the team has been approved to host the National Key Research and Development Program, 1 research project on new technologies for immunization and prevention and control of important waterfowl diseases, 15 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and many other national research projects, with more than 30 million RMB in research funding. The team members have published more than 200 SCI-indexed papers in authoritative academic journals such as PNAS, J Virol and JImmunol, and authorized more than 30 national invention patents; more than 10 postgraduates have been awarded national scholarships and 3 postgraduates have been awarded excellent graduates of Sichuan Province; the postgraduates of the team have been awarded 8 university-level excellent postgraduate dissertations and 1 national excellent veterinary degree dissertation; the further study rate of the trained postgraduates is 30% and the employment rate is 100%.More than 20 postgraduate students have gone on to pursue their PhD or postdoctoral research at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in the USA, the University of Göttingen in Germany, Utrecht University in the Netherlands and Ghent University in Belgium.
