Salmonella enterica

Introduction

Salmonella enterica is a facultative anaerobic gram-negative bacterium with more than 2,600 serotypes and an important zoonotic pathogen worldwide. Salmonella infections cause enteric diarrheal disease or systemic invasive diseases in a broad spectrum of animal hosts and humans. Human consumption of Salmonella-contaminated products frequently led to salmonellosis outbreaks, posing a serious impact on public health. The global epidemiology of salmonellosis is complex, with diverse serovars, such as Typhimurium, Enteritidis, Newport, in different regions worldwide. Still, prophylactic vaccines with broad serovar coverage are unavailable.

Current research interests

1. Investigation of Salmonella prevalence in avian species
2. Identification of protective antigens in Salmonella enterica
3. Protective mechanism against Salmonella infection
4. Optimization of Salmonella-based vaccine delivery system
