Introduction
Duck enteritis virus (DVE), also called duck plague virus (DPV), a member of the alphaherpesvirus subfamily, which can cause severe damage and lifelong latent infection in ducks, geese and swans. It is worldwide distribution, wherein migratory waterfowl plays a crucial role in its transmission within and between continents. The morbidity and mortality of DEV infected young ducklings or unprotected ducks reaches up to 100%, resulting in considerable economic losses to the commercial duck industry and poses a continuous threat to wild and migratory waterfowl populations.
Recent researches have revealed the viral genome structure and multiple functions of many DEV genes, but less is known about the underlying mechanisms of viral replication, pathogenesis, establish and reactivation of latency. Based on this, our research topics are as follows:
1. The proteins involved in DEV replication and underlying molecular mechanism.
2. Interactions between viral and host proteins and details of mechanisms involved in gene regulation.
3. The pathogenesis investigation including autophagy, apoptosis, immune response and infection patterns caused by DEV.
4. Cell model establishment for DEV.
5. The development of DEV vectored vaccines for preventing multiple diseases of waterfowl.
6. The development of high-throughput, sensitive and rapid diagnostic methods and reagents for DEV detection.
